Multimedia Specialist

Course Description

Multi-Media Specialists transform usually static visual communication and advertisements into dynamic, interactive immersed media with sound and movement utilizing computers. In this course, students learn document conversion from paper to electronic media, perform website animation utilizing Flash technology, and produce computer based advertising compact discs. Students also learn: creation of desktop movies and videos, achieving the correct camera shot, writing storyboards, and editing videos. At the end of this course each student achieves a working knowledge of Fireworks MX, Dreamweaver MX, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2, Sony DV300 Professional DVCAM, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, and will have an Intermediate knowledge level of Flash MX. Students create the following deliverables for themselves or a chosen business:

  • Complete print identity package (logo, business cards, letterhead, envelopes)
  • Complete promotional website
  • Complete promotional CD-Rom including CD label layout
  • Complete promotional digital commercial

Admission Requirements

  • Individuals applying for this course are required to interview with an Academic Advisor
  • Present proof of education (high school diploma or GED certificate)
  • Achieve a passing score on the CSN Basic Skills Test for this particular course

Career Opportunities

Upon completion of this course, students are prepared to work in the following occupations: Court Videographer, Video editor, Advertising Technician, Multimedia Artist, Computer Animator. Multimedia Specialists are found in a wide range of work settings such as: in a court room televising the proceedings; in a company preparing training media for new hires; at a crime scene taking photos for evidence; at a production studio creating animated short stories for kids; or in a large advertising agency creating the entire ad campaign from print ads to websites for a major client.
